SERAPHIM War in Heaven

Field Manual

This is the abridgement. The full manual is nine hundred pages, most of them procedure, and you will be made to read it eventually. What follows is what a Civilian needs in the first month, which is the period during which most Civilians stop being anything.

Standing instruction

Nothing in here is written to encourage you. Where a thing is dangerous it says so and gives the number; where a thing is a trap it says that too, and then tells you how to use it anyway, because operatives who are protected from the answer make the decision badly and later.

Sections

§ 1

Ohr

Light, how to grow it, what it runs, and the other kind you should not use and will.

§ 2

Issue

What you will be given, in the order you will be given it. Plate, blades, and the wings.

§ 3

Corruption & the Tree

What the enemy costs to carry, and the ten measures of what you are becoming instead.

First month

In order, and none of it optional. Every step below exists because somebody skipped it.

  1. Find Adamant. It is down there — anywhere below the surface, thickest around a hundred metres, and better odds in deepslate. Everything else on this list is downstream of it.
  2. Smelt Shefalite Crystal into Shefalite Ingot . A common furnace will do it. This is the black metal every Seraphim thing is eventually made of.
  3. Press coal into Graphene Sheet . Four of it, or one diamond if you have been lucky. Graphene is how anything here holds a charge.
  4. Make Initiate plate and a Herev. Both at an ordinary bench. You are now, by the only definition that matters, armed.
  5. Find a Sinai entrance. They are rare and they are deliberately unremarkable. Inside is a Fabricator, and a Fabricator is the line between salvaging technology and making it.
  6. Build a Crystallizer . It grows Ohr out of Shefalite and living matter while you are elsewhere. Operatives who skip this step spend the rest of their careers rationing.
  7. Alloy Seraphic Steel Ingot . Fabricator work. From here the tree opens.
